Cango Careers: Animal Department Assistant - Animal Kitchen

The role of an Animal Assistant is to assist in the daily tasks of the animal department. The main task will be preparing diets for the animals in the animal kitchen and at certain, times assisting outside in the enclosures in the mammal and birds section.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily preparation of about 60 species of animal’s diet, twice daily
  • Daily chopping and dicing of fruit and vegetables and preparation of meat
  • Ensure enough fruit and vegetables are ordered 3 x week
  • Keeping kitchen in very clean condition
  • Oversee volunteers who assist in the kitchen that everything is done correctly
  • High standards of hygiene and able to identify problems
  • Washing, disinfecting of all food dishes
  • Stock control of various food items
  • Ensuring safe practice at all times as per department Safety Protocols
  • Any ad hoc duties

Requirements:

  • Minimum school requirement Grade 10
  • Passion for animals and conservation
  • High standards of hygiene
  • Good time management
  • Self-motivated
  • Good people skills
  • No criminal record (documentation will be required from the police station)
  • Sound physical and mental health status
  • Must be able to work full time, as well as some weekends and public holidays
  • Able to speak fluent English and Afrikaans
  • South African Citizen
