The Campbell
is a breed of domesticated duck and come in three color
varieties: dark, khaki and white. At the Cango Wildlife
Ranch you will find four white Campbell ducks and twelve
bright yellow ducklings born recently.
The Campbell duck has a very well recorded history.
This breed was developed in England by Adele Campbell
at the end of the 19th century who wanted to develop
a breed for laying white table eggs that was not broody,
reluctant to fly away and acted more like fowl. Today
these ducks are mainly kept for their beauty and their
egg production which is said to be able to exceed even
the most efficient domestic chicken.
Campbells are profilic egglayers and most females will
lay their first eggs when only 5 – 7 months old
and will lay an average of 300 eggs per year. These
ducks are known to be energetic and active foragers
that will keep snails and bugs out of your garden and
adapts to their surroundings and climate very well.
The amount of time a person can spend watching these
ducks and their bright yellow offspring paddling around
in the water must be another of their good qualities
as we have noticed visitors spending up to a half an
hour just watching and smiling at these pretty birds.
At the Cango Wildlife Ranch you will not find duck
eggs on our restaurant menu but you will find a multitude
of yellow ducklings to amuse you for hours on end.
